Lesotho, a small country encircled by South Africa is facing huge number of problems which need immediate solution. Lesotho is under widespread poverty and 50 percent of the population lives below the poverty line. Furthermore, the populace of Lesotho is not self-sufficient in agriculture. Due to drought the food production is affected very badly and also there prevail frost even in the summer months which add to the worries. This has made more than half of the Lesotho populace dependent on food aid.
The population growth is all time high and lack of management has worsened the situation further. As the populace depends on agriculture therefore incessant farming has lead to land degradation since renewal of nutrients and formation is hampered by continuous farming. Another major cause of concern is over-grazing by the farm animals which is bad for production. With its wide problems of land degradation and soil erosion, Lesotho’s problems are ever-rising.
