Alabama with a population of 4.6 million is the 23rdmost populous states in USA. Alabama has survived the economic hardship from the time of the Civil war to the Second World War. The state of Alabama is facing a number of economic problems even though it has made a shift from agriculture to technology. Illegal drug trafficking and substance abuse are looming large on the population of Alabama and the young populace is especially vulnerable to it.
One of the main reasons of the addiction is the easy availability of these illegal substances in the underground market. Drug trafficking organizations transport these illegal substances from countries like Mexico and Columbia. In addition, these are locally produced and manufactured in the state. In the year 2003-2004, there was an increase in the figure of adult drug arrest and juvenile substance arrest. This has been linked to the state’s towering crime rate.
The government of Alabama is doing its part to solve the menace of drug abuse and for this reason Alabama has been placed under the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area. This program has been undertaken to solve the drug trafficking and other substance related menaces faced by the state. In addition with this program, Alabama’s alcohol rehab facilities and drug treatment centers will go a long way in reducing the menace of drug abuse among the populace.
