Cocaine, heroin, marijuana and methamphetamine are referred to as street drugs. Though some harmless drugs are widely used in our society like caffeine however the dangerous effect of other hazardous drugs cannot be ruled out. United States has become the “victim nation” of the drug trade. Though it has played a great part in combating the drug trade however much is yet needed to be done to completely wipe out the menace.
In the year 1980, Southeast Asian heroin became a chief threat to the United States. The United States along with other countries are concentrating on combating the heroin threat. Positive results are seen when use of informal drugs declined however there is not much improvement in case of hard-core drug users as they tend to use these drugs at an increased rate. After reducing the use of casual drugs, focus is needed to be given in combating hard-core drugs. These may take many more years for the result to be seen however with right law enforcement, education, treatment and economic development combating of casual as well as hard-core drugs is possible.
