Drug Addiction taking lives of people in West Virginia

The use of illegal drugs is very common in West Virginia. West Virginia is counted among the top ten states which uses illegal drugs. Prescription drugs addiction is one of the major causes of concern for the people of West Virginia. Opiates stands as the biggest threat however prescription painkillers and other prescription drugs are also very common in West Virginia. One of the most costly drugs is OxyContin and because it cost $60 to $80 per pill so therefore most of the addicts start with heroin which costs about $10 or even less.

West Virginia is counted among the top ten states which uses illegal drugs.

Along with prescription drugs and painkillers, cocaine is also used by a large numbers of the populace. In this regard, West Virginia also falls on the top ten states for using cocaine. The health hazards of using these drugs are dangerous and every year large numbers of deaths occurs due to widespread drug addiction and abuse. In some other places in West Virginia, marijuana is most widely used even more than opiates.

Drug overdose deaths in the country have become very common. Prescription drug overdose took the life of 9 out of every 10 persons in West Virginia in 2001 to 2008. It has also been observed that more people die of overdosing of prescription drugs in West Virginia than of car accidents!
