Cigarette smoking and its consequence

Cigarette smoking is only hard on the heart, Right? Wrong. Recent research has shown that smoking can push you towards an array of health problems. Your heart is not the only organ which has to bear the consequence of smoking as you are destroying every organ of your body by lighting that ‘death stick’! ‘Death stick’ it is, because smoking will eventually lead you to death/or disability! The smoke from that ‘stick’ contains more than 4,000 chemical compounds, 200 of which are toxic and more than 60 chemicals are carcinogens.

Smoking can push you towards an array of health problems

Let us have a look at the adverse effects cigarette have on the human body which ultimately lead to a death:

90percent of all lung cancer in men and 80percent of all lung cancer in women are caused by smoking.

Smoking is the leading cause of death from ‘Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease’.

Smoking cause Coronary heart Disease, another leading cause of death among many.

Cigarette smokers are at a higher risk of developing Peripheral Vascular Disease’. Smoking leads to reduced circulation by narrowing the blood vessels (arteries) where obstruction of the large arteries in the arms and legs cause problems ranging from pain to tissue loss or gangrene.

Smoking leads to abdominal aortic aneurysm where the ‘aorta’ which is the main artery of the body swells and weakens.

Smoking cause lung cancer and lung diseases such as emphysema, bronchitis, chronic airway obstruction in which the airways and the alveoli of the lungs get damaged.

The above are just a few of the many dangerous consequences of cigarette smoking. Besides this, smoking has adverse reproductive and early childhood effects. Pregnant women who smoke are at a high risk of infertility, preterm delivery, stillbirth, low birth weight and sudden infant death disorder. With all the damages that smoking does to our body it is only natural that those who ‘puff’ should quit at the instant.
