HIV and Aids is wiping out a whole nation in Botswana

Botswana has the highest rate of HIV prevalence in the world. Because of the prevalence of HIV lots of adults are losing their lives which are affecting the economy. As the epidemic has reached worrying extent the country’s response has not been as anticipated. The 15-49 years age groups of the population are mostly affected by the epidemic.

The families are forced to cash out huge sums of money to treat their HIV infected dear ones and daily loss of money is pushing them towards poverty.

The situation is worsening because of the exceptional mobility of the Botswana community. The Botswana community has the tendency to move to several localities often due to work related issues. Those who are employed with the Government organization are transferred every two years and this has resulted to the spread of the endemic. Due to the epidemic the life expectancy of the populace has been affected severely where it has fallen from 65years in 1990-1995 to less than 40 years in 2000-2005. This figure shows the severity of the epidemic.

Due to the loss of lives of the youths the economic status of the society is degrading. The families are forced to cash out huge sums of money to treat their HIV infected dear ones and daily loss of money is pushing them towards poverty. There are very few workers left and this is affecting the mining and the agricultural sector. Due to the Aids every family has lost at least one family member and children are the worst sufferers because they have lost at least one of their parents.

Presently the country is still under the grip of AIDS. Botswana must do something to stop the escalating number of deaths of its populace.
